Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate coursework. Baccalaureate degree in any major field of study, including above average performance in courses required in a premed curriculum (click here to view a list of prerequisite courses). Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores from either the paper-based or the computer-based examination taken within five years prior to application. You do not have to take the subject-specific exam; we only require the general exam. The program must receive official score reports directly from the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The GRE code for the Anesthesiology Program (listed as Emory U Anesthesiology) is 5692. The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) scores may be submitted instead of GRE scores. The MCAT must have been taken within five years prior to application. The program must receive an official hard-copy MCAT score report. Three reference forms from persons familiar with the applicant’s prior academic performance, potential, character, work habits, and suitability for graduate study leading into a career in clinical practice. Avoid sending only character references from family friends, or clergy. At least eight hours of exposure to the clinical practice of anesthesia in the surgical setting to ensure familiarity with the anesthesia practice and the environment in which day-to-day work occurs. Interview at the request of the Admissions Committee on-site at Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia.

Guidelines for Graduates of Colleges and Universities outside the United States In addition to the General Admission Requirements (above), the applicant who has graduated from a college or university of a country for which English is not the primary language (regardless of United States’ residency status) must do the following: Applicant must obtain a minimum score of 600 on the written (or comparable score on the computerized) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The program must receive an official score report directly from Educational Testing Service, Princeton, NJ. Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate course work taken outside of the United States must be submitted to the program, along with a report from a credentialing organization such as Educational Credential Evaluators, Incorporated or World Education Services International Academic Credential Evaluation. The report must demonstrate equivalency to a bachelor’s degree received at an American college or university and must evaluate the transcript course-by-course for equivalency to required prerequisites for admission to the Anesthesiology Program.
